The Wreck of the New Carissa
New Carissa Removal
Barges Karlissa A and Karlissa B by the wreck of the New Carissa.
Information Updates

After more than nine years since the New Carissa freighter ran aground on Oregon’s shore, the state has completed its removal.

On Sept. 23, 2008, the last visible piece of the wreck was lifted out of the water. By Sept. 28 the pieces remaining on the ocean floor were successfully removed by contractor Titan Salvage. On Oct. 12, the Karlissa A and Karlissa B barges were jacked down and moved to Empire, where they remained until being sent to another job site in January 2009.

Demobilization of the shore site on Foredune Road was completed in November, which included replanting and recontouring the contractor's staging area.
